Ovi Maps: free GPS 21/01/2010
Nokia kondigt vandaag zijn plannen aan om wandel- en autonavigatie gratis aan te bieden op zijn smartphones als onderdeel van een nieuwe versie van Ovi Maps, te downloaden via www.nokia.com/maps. Op deze manier denkt Nokia het huidige marktpotentieel op de mobiele navigatiemarkt te kunnen verdubbelen. Nokia’s kaart- en navigatiesoftware is speciaal ontwikkeld voor mobiel gebruik en gebaseerd op unieke hybride technologie. De nieuwe versie van Ovi Maps bevat hoogstaande auto- en wandelnavigatiefuncties zoals stembegeleiding voor 74 landen in 46 talen, verkeersinformatie over meer dan 10 landen evenals gedetailleerde kaarten van meer dan 180 landen.

It all started with Google Earth and Google Maps, which offered detailed satellite imagery of Earth for free; then, the iPhone and other smartphones started coming with GPS chips, and GPS navigation (together with other location-based services) became one of the most important features on smartphones.
